Packers’ Matt LaFleur Reveals A Player He Wants Back In 2024
Dan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Green Bay Packers are poised for a significant transformation in the upcoming 2024 season compared to their performance in 2023.

Despite facing challenges during the past season, the Packers demonstrated commendable growth as the year progressed, securing a spot in the NFL Playoffs, all while having one of the youngest rosters in the league. This achievement surpassed even their own expectations.

However, as they look ahead to the next season, the team acknowledges that youth and inexperience can no longer serve as valid excuses for any shortcomings.

Head coach Matt LaFleur, in his end-of-year press conference, made it clear that the expectations for the upcoming season would be considerably higher than the previous one. Having gained a taste of the playoffs in what was initially seen as a rebuilding year, the Packers now aspire to become perennial contenders once more.

The composition of next year’s team will also see significant alterations compared to the current roster. Several players are approaching free agency, and their return to the team is uncertain. Financial constraints may make it impossible to retain some, while others might be replaced with new draft picks.

One notable impending free agent who has received Coach LaFleur’s endorsement for a return to Green Bay is running back AJ Dillon.

“He’s been a great member of our team… You could really see his value every year towards the end of the season… I told him, shoot, I’d love to have him back here.”

During his recent media interaction, Coach LaFleur addressed various topics, although he chose to remain tight-lipped about the future of Joe Barry with the team. On a positive note, he expressed his desire for quarterbacks coach Tom Clements to return.

Coach LaFleur was also questioned about the future of key players, including left tackle David Bakhtiari. Regarding Bakhtiari’s situation, Coach LaFleur stated that all options are being considered, leaving the possibility of Bakhtiari returning as the starting left tackle for the Packers in the upcoming season open.

Another player under scrutiny is AJ Dillon, whose future with the team remains uncertain among fans. Despite a subpar year that saw him record a career-low average of 3.4 yards per carry, Coach LaFleur is eager to retain him. However, the final decision lies with the front office, leaving fans eager to see if their sentiments align with Coach LaFleur’s endorsement.
